A letter from our Founder

Thank you for taking the time to visit and read about how Mindful Life came to be.

What started as a seed of an idea back in 2014 has over time developed and grown into so much more than what I had originally set out to create. Mindful Life is now something so meaningful and personal to me and I am so excited to share it with you.

The story of Mindful Life began with the birth of my son, River and was also influenced strongly by my Mum and inspired by other parents who have gone before me. But more about that later.

In the beginning, my goal with the business was simply to create a range of fully functional skincare products for babies and children, free from nasties but full of safe, gentle, naturally derived and organic ingredients. They had to be cruelty free, Australian made and ingredients sourced sustainably and ethically. There were like minded products already available but not enough and I was passionate about growing that space. As I delved into it, I also realised sadly, there were some brands that didn’t always deliver on that promise.

As I started to progress with the creation of the range, I realised I wanted this to be more than just a baby brand. I wanted to create something that was purpose driven, that would start a conversation and ideally, send a bigger message – one that would help change people’s perspective for the better. That became the ultimate goal for me. The question that remained though, was how?

And this is where my Mum and other parents come into the story.

As far back as I can remember, my Mum would speak of the importance of ‘being mindful’.
I always tried my best to practice mindfulness – I knew it was good for me, I knew the benefits of it, but I could never quite master it. Even now, I still have days where I struggle with it. Luckily for me, my Mum was even more insistent of this practice when I became a Mum myself, because now, it wasn’t just about me – I had a child to consider as well.

In those first few months of being a new Mum, I lost count of the times that other parents would say to me, “Enjoy your kids while they’re young – it goes so fast” or “I wish I could have that time again”.

Those comments, coupled with my Mum’s teachings, really resonated with me. Knowing that I had a tendency to rush through life at times, hearing those very wise words made me want to slow down and be more present – especially where my son was concerned.

Bath time and preparing him for bedtime then became a particularly special time for me. A time to really stop and enjoy this beautiful bonding moment. I stopped rushing through what can be considered a chore and started to mindfully go through the experience with him. In turn, I have also cherished those times from the moment my daughter was born.

It was then that it all suddenly fell into place and I found the purpose and the “why” of this business. It was more than just creating safe, quality products for babies and young children – to me, that was a given. It was what those products represented.

One word popped into my head almost instantly that epitomised everything I was hoping to communicate with my brand and brought me back to the important lesson I had learnt as a new mum about being more present. Mindfulness. And it was from here, that Mindful Life was born.

I knew in an instant that I wanted this brand’s purpose to assist in bringing this practice into the lives of other parents and people in general. Our lives are getting busier – we are trying to do it all and have it all. We can get caught up in that “mouse on a wheel” cycle and find it hard to jump off, press pause and connect – back into ourselves and with others. And this can be detrimental to our health. Trust me, I’ve been there.

My goal now is to encourage presence in a world where we are often time poor and juggling competing priorities and to practice this where possible – especially where our families are concerned.

I’m extremely proud to bring you our Mindful Life Child range of products.
My hope is that you will use these products as a reminder to enjoy a beautifully chaotic time of day with your child and to immerse yourself in it. Enjoy being the centre of their whole universe while you can and connect with them, so that later in life and upon reflection, you will know you made those moments count and you didn’t take it for granted.

It won’t always be possible to do this, but when you can, I urge you to take the time to truly enjoy bathing and caring for them. Calm them through massage, feel their beautiful skin under your fingers, sing them songs and prepare them for a peaceful night’s sleep. Read that bedtime story slowly, with awareness and be present.

To all the parents who told me to stop and take it all in, thank you – this is for you.

And to my Mum – thanks for the constant inspiration and reminding me of what’s important in life and how precious time is. I love you.

Until next time,
Stay Mindful
